Absorbent Collection, Recycling and Processing
Almost every shop, fleet facility and even marine environments use absorbents to keep work areas clean and safe. As you use absorbents, you simply clean them up and put them in a used absorbent drum. Our drivers stop by on a weekly or monthly basis to consolidate the collection drums, pick up full drums and restock absorbent inventory.
Once the absorbents are retrieved by an H & H Oil Recycling driver, the oil is extracted from the absorbents and recycled. H & H can provide drums, collect your used absorbents and maintain your EPA records to ensure stream disposal compliance.
Managing Used Absorbent Waste:
1) The used absorbents are recycled for re-use as absorbents.
2) The collection containers (open drums, open totes or rolloffs) are recycled and re-used.
3) The oil is extracted from the pad, filtered and processed for re-use.
Because your used absorbents are destined for recycle and re-use they are not regulated by RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act), and therefore, do not require a waste manifest form. With H & H Oil's online documentation and scheduling application you can access all records of material collection from your facility. Your information is always secure and your material collection compliance ensured.

Managing Used Absorbent Waste:
- Absorbents used for cleaning up used oil spills do not need to be tested to determine if they are a hazardous waste if the absorbents will be laundered and reused
- Absorbents used for cleaning up used oil spills do not need to be tested to determine if they are a hazardous waste if they are burned for energy recovery and if they have a heating value equal or greater than 5,000 BTU per pound.
- If you handle your oil-soaked absorbents in some way other than laundering or burning, you must have the absorbents tested to determine whether or not they are hazardous.
